  1. In the road they always say the the environment around them is a world of ash they always say that "the ash is there" or "in the ash" and it resembles ash to a volcano and the video shows that it is always possible for yellowstone to blow and cover a large area but were not sure if in the road the whole world is destroyed if so then it wouldnt be from only yellowstone.

    1. hey man good job i like the resemblance between the 2 stories. My only comment is that you need to capitalize The Road and Yellowstone.

    2. Isn't it possible that the ash could be from a large fire or series of fires rather than from a volcano?

    3. This is a good response just include a quote maybe about the weather inferring that it could have been a volcano.

  2. This documentary is reflected in Cormac McCarthy’s The Road as the documentary talks about what it would be like if the Yellowstone volcano and then all the others were to erupt and the effects that they would have on the entire world. This is similar to Cormac McCarthy’s book because although in the book it does not tell you if the disaster that occurred was a volcano you can infer through the descriptions of ash and things like that, that a volcano was probably what had happened. It also talks about in the video that anyone 100,000 miles within Yellowstone would be dead and that it would be blankets of ash meters deep and that daylight would be blocked out for a few days. In the book it talks about the tons of ash coating everything and grey skies that the boy and the man see and experience along their entire journey. This documentary is also reflected in The Road because it talks about how these volcanoes erupting would be the ultimate test for survival and how people would try to migrate to a better place in which they can eat, breathe healthily and survive and constantly be on the hunt rummaging through evacuated homes and places for food to continue surviving just as this goes on within the story. “They went back through the store again looking for another cart but there were none. By the door were two softdrink machines that had been tilted over into the floor and opened with a prybar....He withdrew his hand slowly and sat looking at a Coca Cola...It’s a treat for you..’You drink it, let’s just sit here’..it’s because I won’t ever get to drink another one, isn’t it?” (23). This is one of the times that they are lucky in finding any supply of food as usually they just rummage through tons of ash everywhere and have no luck finding anything to survive off of. The documentary was very relatable to Cormac McCarthy’s story.

  3. This documentary is reflected in Cormac McCarthys "The Road" because they relate in many different forms. This volcano massacre could have caused the apocalypse. Losing technology and electricity can cause people to go crazy. In The Road everyone is dead or crazy. This can relate. Many people in the video are stocking up on food. Everyone is getting scared and terrified causing people to go mad. People aren't realizing if this volcano erupts we will all die if we don't do something. People will lose everything and it will turn into an apocalyptic scene.

  4. The tragedy in the novel The Road, can easily be connected to the video. In the novel it says things like "The soft ash blowing in loose swirls over the black top." In the movie it explained that if Yellow Stone were to erupt that it'd be nearly impossible to breathe with the amount of ash in the air. Also in the novel it explains that there is a winter in which they need to flee from, and go south. "They were moving south. There'd be no surviving another winter here." This indicates a huge connection between the video and the novel. The video it explains that the sulfur gas from the volcano will combine with oxygen, and water to create microscopic droplets that ultimately blocks the incoming solar energy creating a volcanic winter.

  5. This documentary talks about the precautions of the Yellowstone volcano erupting. This relates to Cormac McCarthy's book because in the text there are many hints that could lead you to think that a volcanic eruption cause the apocalypse. In the book they talk about having no power or electronics which would make sense with a volcanic eruption. Also McCarthy talks about the world being covered in ash a lot. In the novel it specifically says "Dust and ash everywhere." which can help the reader infer that there was a volcanic eruption. The video also relates to the book because there is little people left on the world because if you inhale the ash you could die in just one breath. It lastly makes sense because McCarthy writes in the book about how everything is gray and how the sky is always dark. It would be the same way if a volcano erupted, everything would be dark and gray.

  6. In the documentary What would Happen If Yellowstone Erupted Hell on Earth - Evacuate Earth Part 2 they talked about how almost all of the human race would die off. It also talked about how with billions of people living on the earth it is very likely that a few people would survive through the apocalypse. In the book The Road by Cormac McCarthy The man talks about his old friends “Did you have any friends? Yes. I Did.... What happened to them? They died.” He shows that many of the people in the world died off however a few people such as the man and the boy managed to survive.

  7. The documentary and "The Road" can easily be connected specifically because of the topic of ash. In the video it says "within 100 to 1000 miles of Yellowstone there would be blankets of ash, meters, yards deep." In the book they are constantly talking about the ash, and the problem of it. Also, another connection between the book and the documentary is the scrounging for food. In the documentary it says that "an average adult needs 1 million calories to survive annually" also shown in the documentary is the scene of the girl quickly taking cans and whatever other food she could find out of a cabinet in an abandoned house. If an apocalypse, of any kind, were to happen food would be a constant problem. We need food to survive and if the nation was in a state of catastrophe then anyone who survived would be doing anything for food and always looking for it. In "The Road" it says "Mostly he worried about their shoes. That and food. Always food."To me this is an important quote because it shows that at the time the man was worrying about their shoes and that's what he was concerned about, but he is always worried about food. It's not that the shoes all the sudden were the most important, they were just the most recent and newest problem, through their survival food is, and will always be a problem.

  8. This video is like Cormack McCarthy's "The Road" in the sense that it talks about a dead world. Even though the boy and the dad are still alive in the world essentially everything around them is dead. If it weren't they wouldn't have such a hard time finding food or a place for shelter. Buildings are burnt and everything is covered in snow. In a sense the end of the world could have resulted from a volcano in "The Road." In the book it talks about how everything is covered in snow and it is freezing and everything is burnt. If you think about it, the explosion of many super volcanos will cause the Earth to go into global cooling and it will be too cold for most things to live. Also, it makes sense that everything was burnt, because the burning hot lava would kill most and burn things. The ash in the book is everywhere and that is what would happen if a volcano erupted. Everywhere within 1,000 miles of the volcano's center will be covered in ash for days. Most people have turned "bad" in the road due to the fact that there is nothing left to civilization and they are simply going insane. In the movie they also said in studies where everyone was quarantined to one place, like the dome in Arizona, they often got so mad at each other they attacked each other. It could be very possible that the man did not get struck by lightning but maybe hit by a hot coal in the eye and that is why his eye is burnt shut. The video and the book are so similar it is very hard to say that they aren't at all connected. If a volcano erupts survival will be our main focus and everything else will become secondary, that is how it is in "The Road." All the man and boy want to do is survive.

Overall your response was very good and was very well connected between the video and the book.

  9. This video is very similar to the book "The Road" for a couple of reasons. In the video they discussed the Yellowstone Volcano erupting, possibly the biggest volcano on this earth. If this beast erupted, it would wipe out everything in its path, and would stop at nothing thus creating an apocalyptic scene similar to the one in the Road. People would become hostile, and hungry to kill anything. No one could be trusted, which is how the father feels about the situation him and the boy are in. The boy and the father scavenge to find food, and struggle to find shelter on their journey south. If the Yellowstone volcano erupted, it would cause desperation, hunger, and would kill many people just like the apocalypse in the Road.

  10. As more and more connections begin to appear between McCarthy's post-apocalyptic world of The Road, and the predicted situation of the havoc Yellowstone's explosion might wreak on the United States, it becomes harder and harder not to accept this situation as the sort that may have plunged the Man and his son into their current situation. Most notably is one scientist's prediction statement on the ash. In particular "meters of ash blanketed" just as the Man and boy trudge through on parts of their journey. Its mentioned regularly the grayish huge that the landscape has taken due to the extensive spreading of ash.

  11. Their are many ways in which elements of the Yellowstone documentary are incorporated into The Road. One example is that the documentary states that people will look for own solutions instead of listening to a government and we can see this in the novel when although the book, the father and the son don't listen to any established laws. We can see that they don't believe in established laws when the novel states " The man had already dropped to the ground and he swung with him and leveled the pistol and fired from a two-handed position balanced on both knees at a distance of six feet. The man fell back instantly and lay with blood bubbling from the hole in his forehead". Another example is that the documentary states that their will be suffer emitted from the volcanoes which will block the sun for entering and we are able to see this in the book when it says "Cold to crack the stones. To take your life. He held the boy shivering against him and counted each frail breath in the blackness". The last example which I will be discussing is that the documentary tells us that the volcanoes will spread ash and we can see the spread of the ash when the novel tells us that "One of his eyes was burnt shut and his hair was but a nitty wig of ash upon his blackened skull". Those are just a few of many ways in which elements of the Yellowstone documentary are shown incorporated into The Road.

  12. This video talks about what it would be like if the Yellowstone Volcano and all the other volcanos were to erupt. It shows how many people would be able to survive the whole incident, and millions would die. Only about 400,000 would be able to survive for a long period. This video is similar to Cormac McCarthy’s The Road book because the man and the boy are trying to survive a particular incident. I predict the incident was caused by a volcano, “the days more gray each one than what had gone before.”(pg 1). This quote is explaining the aerosol layer which is small microscopic droplets that block the incoming sunlight. The volcanos put out aerosol droplets which I predict is causing their world to be so gray. I am also surprised they are able to survive for a while because this aerosol layer also causes global cooling so eventually the world would get so cold they could die. I do not think they will be able to survive much longer because of the increasing aerosol layer.

  13. This video is like Cormack Mcarthy’s “The Road” in the way that it talks about volcanoes erupting and ash. In the book there is “dust and ash everywhere.” If Yellowstone where to erupted ash would be spread within “100 to 1,000 miles of yellowstone.” Making the setting of the world the same as the setting in the book. Also this video talks about how many people would survive the volcanic eruption. In the book the Boy asks the man about his friends by saying “ did you have any friends?” the man replies “i did.” This shows that they are some of the only survivors. In the video they talk about “drinking water will be contaminated” and when breathing you will be “inhaling glass shards; soon we will develop a disease and it is very deadly.” So ultimately you would have a small chance of surviving unless if you have special face masks that provide oxygen.

  14. This video can easily be compared to the book "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy because in the book it talks a lot about ash. The only real explanation of why the ash is everywhere in McCarthy's book is due to a volcano erupting which destroyed all of the buildings, etc. A quote which shows how much destruction has occurred would be "they stood and looked out over the great gulf to the south where the country as far as they could was burned away (14)." In the video they talk about the ratio of survivors to the deceased saying millions will die while only a few hundred thousand will survive, but not for long. Surviving is proving to be difficult due to all the ash/snow the Father and Son have to maneuver through which could really wear your body out sooner than later. They also have encountered very few survivors who have survived.

  16. After watching the Yellowstone video and reading The Road by Cormac McCarthy, there is one distinct connection between the two. In the Yellowstone video the scientist talks to the viewer about obsidian. Obsidian is created when the volcano erupts, this obsidian is sharper than steel and can be deadly. In The Road the mother killed herself using obsidian. From what we know she killed herself with it. “She would do it with a flake of obsidian” (58). So between these two stories they both have obsidian. Also in both cases they talk about how deadly obsidian can be if you are not careful with it. Chase Porter

  17. There is one distinct connection that can be made between the video and the book The Road . In the video it shows a volcanic eruption at Yellowstone. In the book it states, ”She was gone and the coldness of it was her final gift. She would do it with a flake of obsidian. He’d taught her himself. Sharper than steel”(58). This quote shows that the mother cut herself with obsidian which is lava mixed with water as described and shown in the Yellowstone video. This quote and the video reveal that the apocalypse in the book could have been caused by a volcanic eruption. In the book, this could be one of the reasons why the Earth is so dark because the ash covers the sky and the sun.

This video is like Mcarthy's "The Road" because in the book the world is experiencing a "volcanic winter" where the ash is blocking out the sun has cooled down and is why the boy and the man are constantly look for blankets and ways to stay warm. They are also always looking for canned, jarred, or dried food because there are no longer any animals or plants because they all died out during the beginning of the apocalypse. The book also relates to the video because in the video they said that people would have to be prepared to live underground for many years and in the book the man and the boy stumble across a small underground bunker stocked full of food and supplies that someone had made but died before they got to use it. The video is also like the book because ash is everywhere, constantly falling from the sky like rain, mixing into the water and blanketing everything it landed on.

  20. This documentary is reflected in Cormac McCarthy's “The Road” as the documentary talks about how the world will become nothing but ash and it will be nearly impossible to survive everything with limited food source, very hard to find good drinking water, difficult to find a un poisoned living space, how long it will be for us to live in this danger and fear and how it will become rare to have a group of people that get along as us humans are unstable. Although McCarthy didn't specify if the apocalypse was caused by a volcano all the symptoms of they're living environment and daily struggles are very similar. Such as how the man is always worried about their food source and thirst quenching supplies “ They went back through the store again looking for another cart but there were none. By the door were two soft drink machines that had been tilted over onto the floor and the man opened one with a pry bar, he withdrew his hand slowly and sat looking at the coca cola, “it’s a treat for you.” “you drink it lets sit here” said the man “its because i wont ever get to drink another one isn't it?” said the boy (pg 23) and how the man and son have began to deal with “good” people and “bad” people. How the coldness affects them in finding a dry place to sleep other wise they'd be dead from frostbite considering they only have one blanket each and if that blanket gets wet it cold just end up making them colder. Not only that but everywhere they go they live in fear as the little boy is constantly saying “I’m so scared”. The documentary and “the road” are very very similar.

  21. The video is almost like a future reality of Cormac McCarthy's "The Road". Like the smoke a volcano can bring with black ash from it and from those burned is like how the author describes "On the far side of the river valley the road passed through a stark black burn. Charred and
limbless trunks of trees stretching away on every side. " This could have been from a volcanic eruption. This could also be why the sky is always a dark grey and gloomy, since the smoke from the volcano can block the suns rays, keeping the earth like a huge snow cone. Also McCarthy says that there is little clean water since there is black ash usually in the water which would be the same if the ash of a volcano got into the open water supply ( lakes, ponds, streams, etc. ) Also as many people would have to stock up on canned and nonperishable food items which for a long time will become lower and lower depending on how much you can eat a day, in "The Road" the man and the boy keep their food supplies and other useful item for survival in a shopping cart. While many of the other survivors in the book kill others to get the food they may so desperately need, like somebody would do if Yellowstone and the other volcanoes of the world would suddenly erupt.

  22. There are many connections between the documentary and the book, "The Road". One being that in the documentary, it says that soon enough people surviving and see other people in need of help, will ignore them. Just like when the man left the person who was struck by lightning to die. The boy wanted to help; but the father didn't. Another connection between the two is food would be harder and harder to find, because in the book, the man found a Coca Cola and gave it to the son. A third connection is in the documentary, it says the ash will make the earth colder and colder to live on. Which explains why the man covers the boy with a tarp as he sleeps in the beginning of the book.

  24. This documentary is reflected in McCarthy’s The Road as the documentary talks about what it would be like if the Yellowstone volcano and all the others were to erupt and the effects that they would have on the entire world. This is similar to McCarthy’s book because although in the book it does not tell you if the disaster that occurred was a volcano you can infer through the descriptions of ash and things like that, that a volcano was probably what had happened. By the door were two softdrink machines that had been tilted over into the floor and opened with a prybar....He withdrew his hand slowly and sat looking at a Coca Cola...It’s a treat for you..’You drink it, let’s just sit here’..it’s because I won’t ever get to drink another one, isn’t it?”. This is one of the times they are lucky with finding any supply of food they usually just rummage through tons of ash everywhere and have no luck finding anything to survive off of. The documentary was very relatable to McCarthy’s story.

  25. A very good connection that this documentary can make about the book, is the aftermath of the destruction. They say that government has collapsed, agriculture, and industry will be collapsed and it will be like a hell on earth. That is what it’s like in The Road. They state how people will keep moving and fighting, even in the mass destruction. This is what the man and the boy do throughout the book. They keep doing what they can to survive, even in the terrible times. They did what they had to survive, even if it meant going through dangerous areas just to keep going. For example, in the book, when they had to go through almost an entire town just to find food, even if that meant bad people would be waiting for them. The father said to his son, “We’ll hve to take a risk. We need to find something to eat.” (79). This is important because it shows that they need to do whatever it takes to survive, much like the video explains.

  26. The book the road is very similar to the video about the Yellowstone volcano. In the book the author describes what sounds like a volcano eruption. "A dull rose glow in the window glass." In the video they say that casualties would be upwards of 2 million people. In the book McCarthy describes it as there being little to no people, but McCarthy hints that the apocalypse has been going on for some time. As well as many people have died from suicide and starvation because of the mass destruction of everything from what ever caused the apocalypse. The video also says that there are these safe zones but the only way to get into it was to pay a large amount of money, so the 99% wouldn't be protected and therefore a large number of them would have been killed.

  28. This documentary shows a similar type of apocalyptic situation occurring in the book, "The Road". In the documentary it explains how certain circumstances were to be if the Yellowstone volcano were to erupt. The eruption would cause a certain survival mode in all of America and parts of the world which would influence the government to immediately go into evacuation in the immediate areas of the volcano. Many people would also cause havoc because it would infiltrate the fresh air and would take over land thousands of miles from the volcano. Due to this volcano eruption, many deaths would occur and many people would turn to their terms of survival. In the book, The Road it's a post apocalyptic scene of a boy and a man barely surviving in this darkened ashy world. "The
ashes of the late world carried on the bleak and temporal winds to and fro in the void. Carried forth and
scattered and carried forth again. Everything uncoupled from its shoring. Unsupported in the ashen air.
Sustained by a breath, trembling and brief. " This quote from the book mainly explains what the living circumstances currently is like at that point of time in the book. I think that if the Yellowstone volcano were to erupt the situation in real life would become fairly similar to the quote. Comparing the documentary and the book, situations would be fairly similar to "The Road."

  29. This video is very much like the novel in the way that the Yellowstone incident, or something similar, could have been the cause of this devastation that the world in The Road is in. As stated in the video, many people refused to leave their homes, despite the “mandatory” evacuation and they were killed in the eruption. In the novel, the man recalls when the “clocks stopped at 1:17” (McCarthy 52). This is significant because if Yellowstone Volcano did erupt, the power would be disconnected and the clocks would shut off at a certain time. A volcano eruption is one of the possible causes of the devastation.

  30. This documentary and McCarthy’s “The Road” are very similar in a lot of ways because in this video its talking about how if Yellowstone ever really exploded mostly everyone will be deceased and everything will be scorched into ashes. Thats how it is in the book too, barley anyone is alive, everyone is for themselves and everything is really just burned into ashes. In this video it quotes “plants will die, animals will die and people will die” and that really made me think of in the book how everything is dead and burned to ashes. Also by watching the video it makes you think what possibly could have caused the apocalypse in The Road and I think it very well might be from a volcano cause in the book it says how they can only see gray skies, fires burning in the distance, and everything’s burned down/covered in ashes, in this video they say how if this volcano was to explode everything would turn into ashes, wild fires would start burning everything and how when the volcano explodes it will make the skies gray and not visible for a while.

  31. The documentary is very similar to the book because in the book it talks about how they have to live in a world that does not have a lot of sunlight, good air, food , or life just like the book was talking about. I think that in the book a volcano didn't hit them because if one as super as the yellowstone did, then all of the other ones would be set off making it nearly impossible to breath in the world, but in the book they are walking and hiking the open world so they can breath outside fine. Some things are are the same is the fact that you can't really see because there is no sunlight and there is a lot of ash. One thing that is the exact same is that they wouldn't have any to very little amount of food. In the book it says “They went back through the store again looking for another cart but there were none. 32. This documentary was about the monster known as Yellowstone. It talked about the possibilities of this naturally made tanks eruption. I have previously read in articles that if Yellowstone were to erupt, that half of the USA would be covered in molten lava, and the second half would be surrounded by ash such as in The Road which makes me think that this was the reason they're in the apocalypse. The reason why I believe this is because the ash is so prevalent in the story and they always talk about not being able to see because the ash would be so thick.

  33. This video is very similar to McCarthy's "The Road" in a few ways. It shows a similar type of apocalypse that includes a vast amount of fire and smoke/ash covering a large portion of North America. In "The Road" the start is described as, " A long shear of light and then a series of low concussions." This shows that it was caused by some large explosions. This could be the explosion of a large volcano eruption. The explosion would have covered the US in ash which is mentioned multiple times throughout the book. Also with an apocalypse of this type the landscape would be destroyed and there would be no way of making food forcing people to become desperate and cannibalistic like what is mentioned in the book.

This would actually turn into the road because few people would survive but everything would be gone and it would become a fight for survival. Many would start to kill each other and chaos would erupt. There would be a fight for food, shelter, love nearly everything. This would completely end our economy and life what we know it as. The Road is pretty much exactly what would happen if yellowstone erupts. The man and son have to get by in this broken down, destroyed world.

  36. This video talks about what it would be like if the Yellowstone Volcano and the other volcanos were to erupt. It shows that almost all people wouldn't be able to survive the whole incident, and millions would die. Only about 400,000 would be able to survive for a long period. This video is similar to McCarthy’s The Road because the man and the boy are trying to survive an incident very similar. I predict the incident was caused by a volcano, “the days more gray each one than what had gone before.”(pg 1). This is saying how everything is just grey from the ash. The everyday there is more ash that is comming down and making it more grey. The volcanos put out aerosol droplets which I predict is causing their world to be so gray. I am also surprised they are able to survive for a while because this aerosol layer also causes global cooling so eventually the world could go into another ice age. I don't think they are going to survive much longer because of the aerosol layer.

Looking at the Yellowstone video and The Road, the aftermath of the disasters seemed very similar, The sky would be gray, the ground would be covered in blankets of ash, bodies of the unprepared would be strewn everywhere. From The Road, the descriptions of the aftermath point to something similar to the Yellowstone events. Also, The video tells of how this event would be the ultimate test of survival, every man for himself, and what people would do to survive. Charred and limbless trunks of trees stretching away on every side. " In the movie it explained that if Yellow Stone were to erupt that it'd be nearly impossible to breathe the air with the amount of ash in the air. Also in the novel it explains that there is a winter in which they need to run away from, and go south. This indicates a big connection between the video and the novel. The video says casualties would be about 2 million initially, but afterwards the sky would be covered in ash and agriculture and infrastructure would be damaged. The resulting famine and rising chaos would eventually cause a government collapse and far more deaths. The resulting world would look much like the world in The Road.

  43. The novel "The Road" is related to the video in many ways because they are both associated with a huge disaster that could/did lead to an apocalypse. In "The Road" the man and the boy are some of the very few people left after the apocalypse which makes you infer that the apocalyptic event was very destructive and left the world unliveable. Also constantly throughout the novel the author Cormac McCarthy mentions that their is ash everywhere a lot. "The wind had blown the ash from the ice and the ice was black and the creek looked like a path of basalt winding through the woods." This is showing that the amount of ash left after the apocalypse is ridiculous and had made everything in the word black including the ice. In the video it said that if someone inhaled a breath of the ash then they could die instantly which shows that if this disaster every happened then many people would die which has happened during the apocalypse in the book.

  44. The possible destruction of yellowstone can be connected to the story "The Road". In the book "The Road" the boy and man live in a world of disaster/destruction. Survival is the ultimate dependency in times of disaster. In the video and the book we realize that in both cases food is the ultimate need. This video relates to the troubling effect if food were only to be a limited resource, while in the book food is relied upon for survival. Life in both situations such as the eruption of Yellowstone, and the disaster(possibly Nuclear) in the book has common similarities as described well in The Road “the days more gray each one than what had gone before.” This basically means that as the days progress the catastrophe of the situation increases.

  45. The Road and the What Would Happen if Yellowstone Erupted are very similar because they are about the end of the world. Basically you have to be prepared for a zombie apocalypse and a volcano to erupt. Packing the necessities, food, water, and basic survival needs are key to your survival. If you even breath in some of the ash from the Yellowstone volcano erupting it is enough to kill you. And if you get eaten by a zombie, that will also kill you. “The one thing I can tell you is that you won't survive for yourself. I know because I would never have come this far. A person who had no one would be well advised to cobble together some passable ghost. Breathe it into being a coa it along with words of love. OFfer it each phantom crumb shield it from harm with your body.” What this quote means is that you our not surviving for yourself your surviving for another person like the man most likely wants to die. He doesnt want to keep living in a life that he knows hes just going to die in sooner or later, but he keeps going for his son. If the Yellowstone volcano erupted and you were all alone trying to survive you would have no one to survive for because there will be no one keeping you going, you would just want to die sooner.

  46. The documentary reflected in Cormac McCarthy’s “The Road.” because the volcano eruption could have caused the apocalypse to start. This makes sense because Mccarthy writes in the book, there is no power or electronics and people would go crazy. In the documentary it says there would be no power or electronics and no one can contact anyone. You would be all on your own for survival. People wouldn’t think straight if they lived from this explosion for about a hundred years. They would just give up on what they thought was hope. The boy’s mother just gave up because she thought if she was gone the man can take care of the boy better without her. Also she had no more strength to go on. “As for me my only hope is for eternal nothingness and I hope it with all my heart….She was gone and the coldness of it was her final gift.” (58). The boy’s mother didn’t know how long they would survive, she didn’t want to end up dead by someone else’s hands. The documentary relates very well to Cormac McCarthy’s story.

This video talks about what it would be like if the Yellowstone volcano had erupted. Resulting in a chain reaction for all the others around the world to erupt. The consequences would be immense leaving the world in a desolate chaos. This is similar to McCarthy’s book because although in the book it does not include the cause of the world’s devastation & decay. However in the book the disaster that may have occurred only results in a volcano. The examples that are the most obvious would be; the descriptions of ash scattered across the world. The video also mentions that anyone within 100,000 miles of Yellowstone would be dead in mere seconds. Also that the world would be covered in blankets of ash meters that are meters deep. In the book it talks about the tons of ash coating everything & the grey skies that the boy & the man see & experience along their entire quest to go south. This is also reflected in The Road because it talks about how these volcanoes erupting would be the ultimate test for survival as well as how people would try to migrate to a better place in which they can eat, breathe healthily to only survive. Also they are constantly on the hunt to forage through anything no matter what it is. One of the many quotes that I find the most fascinating would be this: “They went back through the store again looking for another cart but there were none. By the door were two softdrink machines, one had been tilted over onto the floor & opened with a pry bar. He reach seeing what was left only to withdraw his hand slowly & sat back looking at a Coca Cola. Here it’s a treat for you.” “You drink it, let’s just sit here. It’s because I won’t ever get to drink another one, isn’t it?” (Page 23). This quote being one of the times that they are lucky in finding any supply of food as to where they usually are just rummage through tons of ash. And most of the time have no luck finding anything to survive off of. Also even when the boy had the chance to have an actual soda, for a kid who’s never even had a can. That’s pretty amazing.

This relates to the book The Road by how it's always talking about the ash and how the skeleton are like leather. Also in the video it talks about how people will turn, humans are unpredictable just like the volcanoes. In the book you have the man and the boy who are good people but then you have the bad ones who aren't in the best favor. You can't just go up to anyone and expect them to help you out, they might kill you.

In the volcano it says “plants will die, animals will die and people will die”. That is something that could have caused the apocalypse in the book. In the video it says that if the volcano erupted then it would start wildfires and there would be so much ash in the sky that you would be able to see the sky for a while.
