ReplyDeleteI feel as if the book is based off of McCarthy and his son and what he thinks what him and his son would be like and how they are so close and as if nothing can tear them apart. He definitely has a strong connection with his son and he is saying in this book that no matter what nothing can break this bond. Its as if the book is him and his son in the future.
ReplyDeleteI like that the book was inspired by him and his own son. He got the idea from a time he was in a motel with his small child. It shows that you can get ideas from almost anywhere. The book is one of those books that are so simple that it's complicated. He says that it's just simply about the boy and his father, but it can seem like it's more than that. It's amazing how his simple idea can turn into several different meaning to other people.
ReplyDeleteThe connection I can make is that I feel Mr. mcCarthy was inspired by his son and his events in life. It seems that he is close with his son and the bond has inspired him to create this story of life on the road with just the son and him. In a way maybe he wrote the book representing him and his son in this apocalypse situation. Of course, this book probably would have been written if the son was not there. The relationship with him and his son gives him the inspiration for the events happening in the book and without that there would be no "The Road".
ReplyDeleteI think it is very interesting because he is somewhat right. I think there could be a possibility of what he is saying is true in the long future. Such as with the trees catching on fire, etc which could end populations if not contained. I think the relationship with his son is important because it really sets the mood in the book.

ReplyDeleteThe author was visualizing the apocalypse. The book was a way of showing the connection between him and his son and how they were so close. For example, when he was watching the snow fall in the morning it's like the part in the book where they were watching the gray flakes of snow fall. The author doesn't know where the book is going to go and neither does the man with his journey
ReplyDeleteMcCarthy's story behind the book is interesting. He has an 8 year old son which he relates to during the book. Nothing like the book happens in real life, he just created it out of nothing. One day he was looking outside and was thinking what the town would look like in the future and visualized the apocalypse. The connection between McCarthy and his son is very deep. The book wasn't intended on being so harsh, it was supposed to be very simple.

ReplyDeleteI think it is very interesting how he just came up with the idea while he was with his son. I think that this means that the man and boy in the book are supposed to be him and his son. I think its interesting how he doesn't say what happens to start the apocalypse. So you can come up with your own conclusion. This was for his son and i think that is cute. You appreciate having your son and thats how the man feels in the book having his son with him or else he would be all alone.
Cormac and the novel are very similar because the novel is about a man and his boy on this journey of survival, in a new world, and a very broken world, where they only have each other. In the interview he talks about how he was laying with his son late at night and he was imagining what the world would be like in 40 or 50 years, and with the father son connection Cormac had with his son, he showed that connection through the novel.
ReplyDeleteHe seems like a very nice man. He doesn't seem like the sort of guy who would right a novel that has so much disturbing imagery in it. I didn't expect him to be such nice normal person. He seems to value simplicity. He talks in a way very similarly to the man.
ReplyDeleteIn the interview he says he goes to the window in the middle of the night and looks out and can picture fires. Where in the book he walks over to the window and looks out and see's a bright sort of glowing. So he connected a real place with the novel.

ReplyDeleteIn the interview, Cormac McCarthy states that he has no Idea where the book is set to go. In the novel, the man does not have a set path. He has a map, but he does not have any set path to follow. Also, McCarthy is an older father to have an eight year old son, and the man is as well. However, the book represents how close the man and his son are, like McCarthy and his son John.

He looked out the window when he was there and saw the town in 50 to 100 years. McCarthy says he appreciates his son and in he book we see the same thing happening . McCarthy has no idea where his book is going . Neither do the man and boy on their journey .

DeleteThe interview showed how Mcarthy has a great connection to his son and I now noticed that it transfered over into his text where most of the book is about the relations between the man and the boy throughout the book. Also he says how the book is very simple and just being about the boy and his father on a road and nothing more.
ReplyDeleteMcCarthy saw how that town would look in 100 years when he was staying there. He said he pictured fire up on top of the hills and lots of destruction. This vision allowed him to write the novel in such detail and let the audience know how much he loves his own son. Most of the book is about the bond and love the man has for the boy.

DeleteMcCarthy says that everyone has their own conclusion when he said that he didn't even predict the outcome of the book and didn't even know how successful it was going to be. The book was written for his son and he appreciates his son , like how the man appreciates the boy through this struggling time. McCarthy shows this idea when he went to a small town that it was going to show a small town would also help his creative thinking.

The way he was talking in the interview was kind of like the way the book was written how hes quiet and to the point while i read the book i picture the way that he is actually talk in the book. i personally love the way that he wrote the book for his kid because i think those books always come out the best of the books.

DeleteThis video was basically about the affects if the super volcano beneath Yellowstone explodes. The affects of the volcano are tragic and have alternating effects on the whole world. The connection between the book and the video is that if the volcano erupted it would cover 1,000 square miles in 10 ft. of ash. The book references this perfectly by giving the read the clues that give a good conclusion that the apocalypse is because of Yellowstone exploding. For example, McCarthy tells the reader that there is ash everywhere and the sky is dark and grey from the ash cover not allowing sun through. The video tells us that in 1,000 square miles the area will be covered in 10 ft.. In the book McCarthy tells the reader that there is ash everywhere. For example, "The ashes of the late world carried on the bleak and temporal winds to and fro in the void." (11) This shows clearly that the apocalypse could very well be because of Yellowstone erupting.
ReplyDeleteIn the interview McCarthy connects his son to the boy in the book. The reason is rather simple, the father is worried about the future of his son's career. We see that the father displays a strong bond for his son, which is the same bond distributed in the book. This bond is so strong that in the book when the boy asks the father "what will you do if I die" the father responds by saying "I will die with you" and I believe that was how McCarthy viewed his life and relationship with the boy. This book wasn't designed to be a hard read it was a "pretty simple, and straightforward story" because McCarthy wanted to get a message across. McCarthy when describing the boy and father relationship in the story is really referring to his strong bond with his son. We know this because McCarthy said "he just had an image of what the town might look like in 100 years and I thought alot about my little boy".

In the book when they find the coke the boy wants to share it with the man and in the interview he says he wants people to appreciate things more and that really shows it.

This is shown because McCarthy gets the for the novel idea from his son which we can see for he takes his son to El Paso and looks outside and imagines the city in the future as a post apocalyptic world in which he sees as image of fire, everything is laid to waste, and all he can thing about is his son. This connects with the book because we see everything laid to waste when the book states "The city was mostly burned. No sign of life." We also see the connection with the fire when the book states that "And nothing bad is going to happen us. That's right. Because we're carrying the fire. Yes. Because we're carrying the fire". We also see the father carrying for the son alot such as when he is willing to give his hot cocoa to the son and have father but the son must make sure that the father drinks some hot cocoa. Those are just a few ways in which McCarthy tells about the father-son relationship which helps us connect with the book.
ReplyDeleteIn the interview McCarthy connects a lot of what he is saying with his son. He says that he doesn't plan out the book's plot and he didn't know where the book was going when he was writing the road. In the book it kinda showed this because the father in the book never really knew where or when he was going to go somewhere. He didn't have a plan. He would just go from place to place when he wanted to or when he felt that it was right. Connecting this back to what he said about not having a plan for this book shows that he really didn't have a plan for this book.
ReplyDeleteIn the Interview Oprah asks McCarthy lots of questions about the Road and his other books. In the interview Oprah asks McCarthy if he ever planed the plot of the book out and he said No. This relates to the novel because the man never has a true idea of what he is going to do in his life and he just go with the flow and if something happens he figures out what to do around it. Also McCarthy has a son that is very young just like the man in the book. McCarthy said that when his son was born he "appreciate fatherhood more" which means that he makes him appreciate life more. This is similar to the man and how when the son was born the man found a reason to live again and a way/reason to appreciate life better
ReplyDeleteCormac McCarthy directly displays parts of his life in his book The Road. In this interview Oprah asked him if he ever planned out any of his writing and he said no. This is just like the man in the story he never really has a set location that he wants to go. He just says that he is going to the south never a real set location.
ReplyDeleteIn the interview of McCarthy he says that he does not plot anything and that he has “No idea where it was going”. This connects to the book because they do not plan anything in the book. They are just planning to go down south but they do not know exactly where they are going. They are just going down south so that they are warm and not in the snow. Also McCarthy says that if you have a kid it forces the world. That goes into factor in the book because the birth of the boy in the book made the man want to survive to get a better life for the boy and he actually has something to live for now.

This really relates to the book because when the boy was born it really woke the father up about the apocalypse and how the man has to take care of his son now especially when McCarthy says “forces the world on you”
