God bless us everyone
ReplyDeleteWe're a broken people living under loaded gun
And it can't be out fought, it can't be outdone
It can't be outmatched, it can't be outrun, no
God bless us everyone
We're a broken people living under loaded gun
And it can't be out fought, it can't be outdone
It can't be outmatched, it can't be outrun, no
And when I close my eyes tonight
To symphonies of blinding light
God bless us everyone
We're a broken people living under loaded gun
Like memories in cold decay
Transmissions echoing away
Far from the world of you and I
Where oceans bleed into the sky
God save us everyone
Will we burn inside the fires of a thousand suns?
For the sins of our hand, the sins of our tongue
The sins of our father, the sins of our young, no
God save us everyone
Will we burn inside the fires of a thousand suns?
For the sins of our hand, the sins of our tongue
The sins of our father, the sins of our young, no
And when I close my eyes tonight
To symphonies of blinding light
God save us everyone
When we burn inside the fires of a thousand suns, oh
Like memories in cold decay
Transmissions echoing away
Far from the world of you and I
Where oceans bleed into the sky
Like memories in cold decay
Transmissions echoing away
Far from the world of you and I
Where oceans bleed into the sky
Lift me up, let me go
Lift me up, let me go
Lift me up, let me go
Lift me up, let me go
Lift me up, let me go
Lift me up, let me go
Lift me up, let me go
Lift me up, let me go
Lift me up, let me go
Lift me up, let me go
(And it can't be out fought, it can't be outdone)
(It can't outmatched, it can't be outrun, no)
Lift me up, let me go
God bless us everyone
We're a broken people living under loaded gun
And it can't be out fought, it can't be outdone
It can't outmatched, it can't be outrun, no
Lift me up, let me go
(God bless us everyone)
(We're a broken people living under loaded gun)
Lift me up, let me go
(And it can't be out fought, it can't be outdone)
(It can't outmatched, it can't be outrun, no)

I choose this song because it is one of my favorite songs and heavily reminded me of the road. One way is the line "We're a broken people living under loaded gun" which reminds me of the father and son who are weak physically and mentally so they keep a gun for protection. Another way is the line "Like memories in cold decay" which reminds me of the father remembering his wife and childhood friends. The last way is the line "Lift me up, let me go" which reminds me of the father - son relation and the father - mother relation. The first part reminds me of the father - son relation because they both care for each other. This is made apparent when on page 34, McCarthy states "In a pocket of his knapsack he'd found a last half packet of cocoa and he fixed it for the boy and then poured himself his own cup with hot water and sat blowing at the rim. You promised not to do that, the boy said. What? You know what, Papa. He poured the hot water back into the pan and took his boy's cup and poured some of his cocoa into his own and then handed it back". The second part reminds me of the father - mother relation because the father has to let go of his wife. This is made noticeable when on page 58, McCarthy states " Will you tell him goodbye? No. I will not. Just wait till morning. Please. I have to go. She had already stood up. For the love of God, women. What am I to tell him? I can't help you. Where are you going to go? You can't even see. I don't have to. He stood up. I'm begging you, he said. No. I will not. I cannot. She was gone and the coldness of it was her final gift".
Pretty creative and intriguing. The quality of the connections is great and I would give it a 10/10. Basically you have great connections and interesting song.
DeleteI like your song alot shabad because it is intense and like when in the song the singer says (We're a broken people living under loaded gun). I find this connected to the book because the main characters have to deal with a gun pointed at them all the time/

ReplyDelete"Don't You Worry Child"
There was a time
I used to look into my father's eyes.
In a happy home
I was a king, I had a golden throne.
Those days are gone,
Now the memory's on the wall.
I hear the songs
From the places where I was born.
Upon a hill across a blue lake,
That's where I had my first heartbreak.
I still remember how it all changed.
My father said,
"Don't you worry, don't you worry, child.
See heaven's got a plan for you.
Don't you worry, don't you worry now."
Yeah!
"Don't you worry, don't you worry, child.
See heaven's got a plan for you.
Don't you worry, don't you worry now."
Yeah!
There was a time
I met a boy of a different kind.
We ruled the world,
I thought I'd never lose her out of sight.
He was so young,
I think of him now and then.
I still hear the songs
Reminding me of a friend .
Upon a hill across a blue lake,
That's where I had my first heartbreak.
I still remember how it all changed.
My father said,
"Don't you worry, don't you worry, child.
See heaven's got a plan for you.
Don't you worry, don't you worry now."
Yeah!
Oh, oh, oh!
Oh, oh, oh!
See heaven's got a plan for you
See heaven's got a plan for you
See heaven's got a plan for you
"Don't you worry, don't you worry, child.
See heaven's got a plan for you.
Don't you worry, don't you worry now."
Yeah!
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh! [3x]
Yeah!
1. First Part- The way i imagine this song is related to The Road , is when the boy grows up and he has a lot of time and memories in his mind in his journey , one of the most beautiful memories was were they found all the foods in a house” in a happy home “ and the boy was feeling good because the father was taking good care of him , he washed him , he made him breakfast , and also cut his hair , and they played “ was a king , i had a golden throne , the boy didn't want to leave from the house but they still had to because they would have been found from the bad people but he wouldn't forget those days “Those days are gone, Now the memory's on the wall”.
2. Second Part - As they were on the road they had to cross rivers to go north , for warm places , but when the boy saw the bad people he was so scared “ Thats when i
my first heartbreak “ and “ i remember how that all changed “ they had to face them , after all the walking they've had to face back to reality .
3. Third Part - When the boy asked the man if he was going to die , the man was telling him that he his in a good hands and hes not going to die because the man will take good care of him “Dont you worry child “ and he had to safe him , and take care of him because god told him to “See heaven's got a plan for you”.
4.Fourth Part- The man they meet on the road and the boy told the man if they could keep them , and the man on the Road lied to them because he didn't know that they were good people and the boy was really kind even that he was young ”There was a time I met a boy of a different kind” the man on the road could stay for them in one night , and when they left they give him food , and the man told him “ I gave you food thanks to the little boy , if it wasn't for him i wouldn't give him “ and the man on the road will never forget what the boy did for him “I think of him now and then, I still hear the songs, Reminding me of a friend .
I think that her song was really creative because it relates to the man telling the boy not to worry. I think that you had really good connections and you used quotes and parts of the song to support your connections.
DeleteFor this assignment I chose the song, “A Warriors Call” by the band Volbeat. I chose this song because I think it goes similar to the theme of The Road, and even the title relates to The Road because in my opinion, the father and boy are warriors. In addition, the vibe of the song is hardcore, face melting, motivating, hard rock, which is what I picture when the man and boy are trudging through snow or loading up his pistol ready to shoot down any intruders. A quote from the novel that relates to this song would be “Everything smelled of damp and rot. In the first bedroom a dried corpse with the covers about its neck. Remnants of rotted hair on the pillow. He took hold of the lower hem of the blanket and towed it off the bed and shook it out and folded it under his arm”. (125) I chose this quote because the man is always focusing on survival and is not even really phased by these discoveries. A quote from the song that is similar to this line is “A champion feeding your face with a fist, you will feel all his power”!
ReplyDeleteI think this relates because the man and boy are warriors weather they know it or not, and they both thrive off of each other’s energy and power.

Let's get ready to rumble!
Feel the fire, he's entering the ring,
His Mindset only knows how to win,
This danish fighter will break you in two,
You will feel all his power!
The viking warrior Mikkel Kessler

Breaking your Record and breaking your bones,
Born a warrior with a code,

His name will echo on the sea and on the ground
Feel the fire, he's entering the ring,
His Mindset only knows how to win,
This danish fighter will break you in two,

The viking warrior Mikkel Kessler

Ten miles from town and I just broke down
ReplyDeleteSpittin' out smoke on the side of the road
I'm out here alone just tryin' to get home
To tell you I was wrong but you already know
Believe me I won't stop at nothin'
To see you so I've started runnin'
All that I'm after is a life full of laughter
As long as I'm laughing with you
I'm thinkin' that all that still matters is love ever after
After the life we've been through
'Cause I know there's no life after you
Last time we talked, the night that I walked
Burns like an iron in the back of my mind
I must've been high to say you and I
Weren't meant to be and just wasting my time
Oh, why did I ever doubt you?
You know I would die here without you
All that I'm after is a life full of laughter
As long as I'm laughing with you
I'm thinkin' that all that still matters is love ever after
After the life we've been through
'Cause I know there's no life after you
You and I, right or wrong, there's no other one
After this time I spent alone
It's hard to believe that a man with sight could be so blind
Thinkin' 'bout the better times, must've been outta my mind
So I'm runnin' back to tell you
All that I'm after is a life full of laughter
Without you God knows what I'd do
All that I'm after is a life full of laughter
As long as I'm laughing with you
I'm thinkin' that all that still matters is love ever after
After the life we've been through
'Cause I know there's no life after you
I chose the song "Life After You" because it relates to the relationship between the man and the boy. In the song it says "I'm thinkin' that all that still matters is love ever after, After the life we've been through, 'Cause I know there's no life after you." I think that this connects to the book because the man knows that without the boy he is lifeless and has little hope for the future and the boy feels the same without the man. Also, the song says after the life we've been through and the man and the boy have been through a long hard journey. Also in the song it says "I'm out here alone just tryin' to get home." I think that this also connects to the book because the man and the boy are out alone on the road just trying to get somewhere safe that they can survive since they no longer have a home. In the novel it says "No one wants to be here and no one wants to leave." Therefore, the only life remaining is between the man and the boy and if one of them is to go, there will be no life left and they will want to leave.
very creative i dont think i would have chosen the song but i can see why you chose the song and how it relates to the book.
DeleteYou did a great job connecting the song and the book! The song you choose was very creative. Also you did a good job in you connection with the quotes you used and how you connected them together.
DeleteI picked the song "Radioactive" because of how closely it is to The Road. For example the general idea behind Radioactive is about a "new age" and "the apocalypse". The book The Road is all about surviving the type of apocalypse that they are in and the boy will constantly ask "Are we going to die?"(10). This is much like when it the song it says "This is it, the apocalypse". This is because when he says "this is it" it is much like saying that this will be the end of him, just like how the boy asks if they are going to die.

"Radioactive"
Whoa, oh, oh
Whoa, oh, oh
Whoa, oh, oh
Whoa
I'm waking up to ash and dust
I wipe my brow and I sweat my rust
I'm breathing in the chemicals
I'm breaking in, shaping up, then checking out on the prison bus
This is it, the apocalypse
Whoa
I'm waking up, I feel it in my bones
Enough to make my systems blow
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, oh, I'm radioactive, radioactive
Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, oh, I'm radioactive, radioactive
I raise my flags, don my clothes
It's a revolution, I suppose
We'll paint it red to fit right in
Whoa
I'm breaking in, shaping up, then checking out on the prison bus
This is it, the apocalypse
Whoa
I'm waking up, I feel it in my bones
Enough to make my systems blow
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, oh, I'm radioactive, radioactive
Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, oh, I'm radioactive, radioactive
All systems go, the sun hasn't died
Deep in my bones, straight from inside
I'm waking up, I feel it in my bones
Enough to make my systems blow
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, oh, I'm radioactive, radioactive
Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, oh, I'm radioactive, radioactive
"Apocalypse Dreams"
ReplyDeleteThis could be the day that we push through,
It could be the day that all our dreams come true,
For me and you,
'Til we're at the end of just another day
Are you too terrified to try your best?
Just to end up with an educated guess,
Like success,
Like those times you wake up mystified
Oh it feels so real in my sleep
Never felt so good, so close I do with you
Until the day this could be feeling
Do you realize that I could feel it.
Everything is changing,
And there's nothing I can do
My world is turning pages
While I am just sitting here
Well, am I getting closer?
Will I ever get there?
Does it even matter?
Do I really need it?
Wish that I'd remember
And I'm on the outcome
(This could be the day that we push through)
Did I really want it?
Does it really matter?
It was only yesterday...
(It could be the day that all our dreams come true)
Didn't even know you...
Now I'm gonna miss you
(Oh it feels so real in my sleep, never felt so good, so close I do)
Nothing ever changes
No matter how long you do your game
It's the same to everyone else
Everything is changing
I guess I should want my love
But she'd just be excited.
I chose the song “Apocalypse Lullaby” for this assignment because a lot of the lyrics relate to what’s going on the book. The lyrics in the song give off the same tone the novel does. For example in the song it says, “This could be the day we push through, It could be the day that all our dreams come true”. This quote shows the relationship between the song and the road because the man and the boy are hoping for a miracle. Everyday they try their best to survive. Sometimes they will find a lot of resources however it is not always likely. When they find things like a lot of food and water it gives them hope to keep going. The boy often loses hope and the man sometimes has to reassure him. For example in the novel the man says to the boy “Dont lose heart, he said. We’ll be alright.”. These conversations between the man and the boy happen a lot in the novel helping each other keep surviving. This quote directly relates to the song both conveying hope and desire.
I think that the song she chose was creative because I've never heard of it and, it's probably not something I would usually listen to. I think her connection to the book is really good because she used quotes to explain better and the songs has to do with apocalypse world. She uses good quotes like "Don't lose heart" and "well be alright" which connects to the song because they have have.
DeleteI like the song you did and i think it was creative because of the fact that it has connections to the book such as "theres nothing I can do" which is the thought of the mother before she kills herself, because she thinks life is meaningless now. Your connections to dont lose heart, is good because the main character never loses heart.
Delete"Grenade"
ReplyDeleteEasy come, easy go
That's just how you live, oh
Take, take, take it all
But you never give
Should've known you was trouble
From the first kiss
Had your eyes wide open
Why were they open?
[Pre-Chorus:]
Gave you all I had
And you tossed it in the trash
You tossed it in the trash, you did
To give me all your love is all I ever asked
'Cause what you don't understand is...
[Chorus:]
I'd catch a grenade for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Throw my hand on a blade for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
I'd jump in front of a train for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
You know I'd do anything for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Oh, I would go through all this pain
Take a bullet straight through my brain
Yes, I would die for you, baby
But you won't do the same
No, no, no, no
Black, black, black and blue
Beat me 'til I'm numb
Tell the devil I said "Hey" when you get back to where you're from
Mad woman, bad woman
That's just what you are
Yeah, you'll smile in my face then rip the brakes out my car
[Pre-Chorus:]
Gave you all I had
And you tossed it in the trash
You tossed it in the trash, yes you did
To give me all your love is all I ever asked
'Cause what you don't understand is...
[Chorus:]
I'd catch a grenade for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Throw my hand on a blade for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
I'd jump in front of a train for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
You know I'd do anything for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Oh, I would go through all this pain
Take a bullet straight through my brain
Yes, I would die for you, baby
But you won't do the same
[Bridge:]
If my body was on fire
Oh, you'd watch me burn down in flames
You said you loved me, you're a liar
'Cause you never, ever, ever did, baby
[Chorus:]
But, darling, I'd still catch a grenade for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Throw my hand on a blade for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
I'd jump in front of a train for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
You know I'd do anything for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Oh, I would go through all this pain
Take a bullet straight through my brain
Yes, I would die for you, baby
But you won't do the same
No, you won't do the same
You wouldn't do the same
Oh, you'd never do the same
Oh, no no no
I chose this song because it talks about a serious relationship. The song describes someone that will do anything for anyone else and that is what the man will do from the boy. In the novel it says "The boy fell and he pulled him up. It's all right, he said. Come on."(McCarthy 61). In the song it says "You know I'd do anything for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Oh, I would go through all this pain" The fact that the father picked up the boy while he was running from bad guys and helped him knowing it would slow him down, It shows that the man's love for the boy in unconditional and he would go to the end of the world for him. The song "Grenade" portrays the fact that some people will do anything for anyone else including taking a bullet or jumping in front of a train and that is basically what the man would do for the boy and that relationship is reflected throughout the whole novel.

ReplyDeleteKill for gain or shoot to maim
But we don't need a reason
To Golden Goose is on the loose
And never out of season
Blackened pride still burns inside
This shell of bloody treason
Here's my gun for a barrel of fun
For the love of living death
The killer's breed or the Demon's seed,
The glamour, the fortune, the pain,
Go to war again, blood is freedom's stain
Don't you pray for my soul anymore?
2 minutes to midnight,
The hands that threaten doom.
2 minutes to midnight,
To kill the unborn in the womb.
The blind men shout "Let the creatures out
We'll show the unbelievers."
The napalm screams of human flames
Of a prime time Belsen feast ... yeah!
As the reasons for the carnage cut their meat and lick the gravy
We oil the jaws of the war machine and feed it with our babies.
The killer's breed or the Demon's seed,
The glamour, the fortune, the pain,
Go to war again, blood is freedom's stain
Don't you pray for my soul anymore.
2 minutes to midnight,
The hands that threaten doom.
2 minutes to midnight,
To kill the unborn in the womb.
The body bags and little rags of children torn in two
And the jellied brains of those who remain to put the finger right on you
As the madmen play on words and make us all dance to their song
To the tune of starving millions to make a better kind of gun.
The killer's breed or the Demon's seed,
The glamour, the fortune, the pain,
Go to war again, blood is freedom's stain
Don't you pray for my soul anymore.

2 minutes to midnight,
To kill the unborn in the womb.

It's all night
This song is describing killing and murdering that is why I chose this song, This describes the killing and relentless murdering like in the road to survive that other survivors do and the father and son must survive from. "What you see stays in your mind forever." The father says this while seeing a relentless murdering with the victims and told the boy not to look.
I found your song to be only somewhat creative. I liked your connection even though it seems to be very short. I believe that you have the bare minimum of evidence required though and that you should definitely have embedded more evidence.

Hold your breath and count to ten
Feel the earth move and then
Hear my heart burst again
For this is the end
I've drowned and dreamt this moment
So overdue I owe them
Swept away, I'm stolen
Let the sky fall
When it crumbles
We will stand tall
Face it all together
Let the sky fall
When it crumbles
We will stand tall
Face it all together
At skyfall
That skyfall
Skyfall is where we start
A thousand miles and poles apart
Where worlds collide and days are dark
You may have my number, you can take my name
But you'll never have my heart
Let the sky fall (let the sky fall)
When it crumbles (when it crumbles)
We will stand tall (we will stand tall)

Oh
I picked the song “Skyfall” because it is about the end of the world and in the The Road it is the end of the world and only some people survived. These two are connected because in the song it says “Put your hand in my hand and we’ll stand” and in The Road the man and the boys relationship is almost exactly like this because they have each other and thats just about all that is keeping them alive. If the man and the boy did not love each other I’m sure that they would not have survived this long in this terrifying world.
I like your song choice because of how it relates to the novel and also the mood of the song.
DeleteI think you picked a song that went along with the book very well. I would have not thought about this song at first, but with your reasons, this song really relates to the story.
Deletei think the song you chose was very creative i normally wouldnt have thought of this song to use to connect to The Road, although I think you could have done a better job connecting the lyrics to the book and actually using a quote from book.
DeleteI chose the song Survivor by Destiny's Child because it is similar to the book The Road. I think this because in the song it says "I'm a survivor, I'm not gon give up." Also in the book it says "No they're not. It will be okay" (203). Suggesting that the father is showing care for the boy. This is important because the father and the boy have been struggling to survive through the worst things such as not being killed by cannibals, and to keep each other safe. The song also relates to the book because in the song they are also overcoming something such as a relationship and not letting that get to you.

But it won't stop
Thought that I would self destruct
But I'm still here
Even in my years to come
I'm still gon be here
I'm a survivor (What?)

ReplyDeleteAnother head hangs lowly,
Child is slowly taken.
And the violence caused such silence.
Who are we mistaken?
But you see, it's not me, it's not my family.
In your head, in your head they are fighting,
With their tanks and their bombs,
And their bombs and their guns.
In your head, in your head, they are crying...
In your head, in your head,
Zombie, zombie, zombie,
Hey, hey, hey. What's in your head,
In your head,
Zombie, zombie, zombie?
Hey, hey, hey, hey, oh, dou, dou, dou, dou, dou...
Another mother's breakin'
Heart is taking over
When the violence causes silence,
We must be mistaken.
It's the same old theme since nineteen-sixteen.
In your head, in your head they're still fighting,
With their tanks and their bombs,
And their bombs and their guns.
In your head, in your head, they are dying...
In your head, in your head,
Zombie, zombie, zombie,
Hey, hey, hey. What's in your head,
In your head,
Zombie, zombie, zombie?
Hey, hey, hey, hey, oh, oh, oh,
Oh, oh, oh, oh, hey, oh, ya, ya-a..
1. I chose this song because I think that it describes the book. I say this because when she's talking about all the things in "your" head, we can refer is to the Boy because he always imagine and thinks the worst of things that might happen to him and the Man. It relates to the man as well because he has to live everyday just waiting for his son to be taking from him like in the part "Another head hangs lowly, Child is slowly taken. and the violence caused such silence.", it explains what is happening to the boy.
2.It connects tot the book because of the parts in it where the man thinks to himself and sometimes tell the boy that one day they are going to lose each other and just have to be ready for that day to come. Another part that connects them is when its talking about "in your head", the man and the boy are having to think the worst possibilities that can happen so they can be ready.
3. One quote that i used was "You forget what you want to remember, and you remember what you want to forget." Again it goes with the "in your head" verse from the lyrics. I say this because it has such meaning to the Boy and The Man. The other quote that i used for the Boy and Man losing each other is "How would you know if you were the last man on Earth? He said.
I don't guess you would know it. You'd just be it.
Nobody would know it.
It wouldn't make any difference. When you die it's the same as if everybody else died too.” I chose this verse because it explains how you just have to be prepared to die at any moment of any day.

I chose the song "Radioactive" by Image Dragons because I think this song really connects to the book. In this song they talk about living in apocalyptic world a how they are living in the new world which is that. In the boy the boy doesn't even know any better unlike the man who knew better than this type of world. They are stuck living in a world that they have to find their own food and shelter or else they will go without it. A quote from the book that relates to the song is "They'd had no food and little sleep in five days and in this condition on the outskirts if a small town they came upon a once grand house sited on a rise above the road." This really shows how they have to find their own food and basically live in a world without many people.

The song you choose relates well to the book because it is about a apocalyptic world just like what the world is about. Your connection is good but if you used a quote from the song that directly connected to the quote about the book would have added to your response. After your quote from the book you should have explained it more.
Deletei think that the writing of the song makes really scene to the novel , i didn't quit understated at the first time , but now that i read your writing it easy to understand. And also i like the connection to the novel you did
DeleteI appreciate how much it can relate to the book and how you chose a newer song and all of the points you made.
DeleteI like the song you picked and it goes well with the book. I like how you related the story to the song by using a quote from the story. Reading the lyrics I can remember certain things from the story.
DeleteI think your song is very creative because of the fact that the song, Ive heard before and its a good song, but also because he uses the quote "Welcome to the new age" which is similar to the book because of the fact that the apocalypse is a new age for humanity.
DeleteI chose the song "I wont back down" by Tom Petty
ReplyDeleteWell, I won't back down
No, I won't back down
You can stand me up at the gates of hell
But I won't back down
No, I'll stand my ground, won't be turned around
And I'll keep this world from draggin' me down
Gonna stand my ground and I won't back down
(I won't back down)
Hey baby, there ain't no easy way out
(I won't back down)
Hey, I will stand my ground and I won't back down
Well, I know what's right, I got just one life
In a world that keeps on pushin' me around
But I'll stand my ground and I won't back down
(I won't back down)
Hey baby, there ain't no easy way out
(I won't back down)
Hey, I will stand my ground
(I won't back down)
And I won't back down
(I won't back down)
Hey baby, there ain't no easy way out
(I won't back down)
Hey, I won't back down
(I won't back down)
Hey baby, there ain't no easy way out
(I won't back down)
Hey, I will stand my ground
(I won't back down)
And I won't back down
(I won't back down)
No, I won't back down
1. I chose this song because it has everything to do with not giving up and fighting through challenges. I feel like this song, fits me well sometimes when I am running on the track and I have serious competition.
2. The connection of the song to the novel is that in the novel the boy and father are fighting for survival, in fact the father takes serious risks just to survive. The song is all about not giving up, not letting the challenges control you, we know this when Tom Petty says "But I'll stand my ground and I won't back down".
3. A quote in the book that has a strong connection to the song is when in the song the lyrics " I'll stand my ground and I won't back down" is used, which refers "The boy who had found some crayons and painted his facemask with fangs and he trudged on uncomplaining". Even though the world that keeps on pushing him around may be challenging and very difficult for survival the boy refuses to give up and he wont back down. We know he is facing challenges because he is "trudging" on, not walking or running but pushing forward. The only reason he is pushing forward is because he wants to survive he doesn't want to die and so he pushes forward.

Your song was very creative although I would not have taken that route. The Quality of Connection was profound even though it got confusing at times. I believe that you had a lot of evidence from the song and book but definitely more from the song.
DeleteI also agree with shabad i like the creativity of your song but i would not have used the song i can see how the song relates to the novel
Delete"Snow (Hey Oh)” By Red Hot Chili Peppers
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvlqclaxyP4
I chose this song because its one of my favorites and certain parts of it really reminded me of different perspectives the man and the boy have to deal with in the post apocalyptic world such as how they wouldn't be able to survive in this world if it weren't for each other, in the song it says “but I need more then myself this time.” So my thought process of the connection to the road behind this line was they need more then just themselves this time, this time, as in this new apocalyptic world. Also when they say “Deep beneath the cover of another perfect wonder where it's so white as snow.” If you think about the snow being ash it's representing how the ash is covering up the perfect old world. In the song it says “Finally divided by a world so undecided and there's nowhere to go.” Theres a part in the book where the man questions weather or not its even worth it to go to the South because how much better could it even be? There really is “nowhere to go” . After that verse the song says “In between the cover of another perfect wonder where it's so white as snow running through the field where all my tracks will be concealed.” In a part of the book it says “They passed through the ruins of a resort town and took the road south. Burnt forests for miles along the slopes and snow sooner than he would have thought. No tracks in the road, nothing living anywhere.” The book connects to the song on the level that they are both talking about how tracks on the road/field are concealed by the snow. Not only does the song and book connect lyrically but the tune of the song is very repeating and the book has a sense of repetition on the note that all they really do is walk, look for food, find horrifying things, walk some more.
I really liked the song that you chose because its really creative and i dont think id ever think of using the red hot chili peppers as a connection to the road but i think you did a really good job connecting the lyrics to quotes of the book.
DeleteI like how you related the land being covered in snow to the ash on the ground in the post apocalyptic world. The song you picked would not be a song that I would have picked first for this, but I think that you pulled out certain details that I would have not.
DeleteI really like your connection! your song choice was very creative and I would not have thought to connect the book to this song. Your did a very good job at connected to song and the book because you connected it in more then one way. Also you did a great job connecting the quotes from the novel and the song together.
Deletei liked the song you chose its really creative and the way you describe it to the novel its pretty easy to understand

ReplyDeleteEasy come, easy go
That's just how you live, oh
Take, take, take it all
But you never give
Should've known you was trouble
From the first kiss
Had your eyes wide open
Why were they open?
[Pre-Chorus:]
Gave you all I had
And you tossed it in the trash
You tossed it in the trash, you did
To give me all your love is all I ever asked
'Cause what you don't understand is...
[Chorus:]
I'd catch a grenade for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Throw my hand on a blade for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
I'd jump in front of a train for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
You know I'd do anything for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Oh, I would go through all this pain
Take a bullet straight through my brain
Yes, I would die for you, baby
But you won't do the same
No, no, no, no
Black, black, black and blue
Beat me 'til I'm numb
Tell the devil I said "Hey" when you get back to where you're from
Mad woman, bad woman
That's just what you are
Yeah, you'll smile in my face then rip the brakes out my car
[Pre-Chorus:]
Gave you all I had
And you tossed it in the trash
You tossed it in the trash, yes you did
To give me all your love is all I ever asked
'Cause what you don't understand is...
[Chorus:]
I'd catch a grenade for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Throw my hand on a blade for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)

You know I'd do anything for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Oh, I would go through all this pain
Take a bullet straight through my brain
Yes, I would die for you, baby
But you won't do the same
[Bridge:]
If my body was on fire
Oh, you'd watch me burn down in flames
You said you loved me, you're a liar
'Cause you never, ever, ever did, baby
[Chorus:]
But, darling, I'd still catch a grenade for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Throw my hand on a blade for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
I'd jump in front of a train for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
You know I'd do anything for you (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Oh, I would go through all this pain
Take a bullet straight through my brain
Yes, I would die for you, baby
But you won't do the same
No, you won't do the same
You wouldn't do the same
Oh, you'd never do the same
Oh, no no no
I chose the song "Grenade" by Bruno Mars. This song is about a relationship between a man and a women and the man will to anything to protect the woman and save her. This is like the man and the boy's relationship because the man will risk everything especially in the post apocalyptic world for the boy to survive and live on.
"The boy wasn't doing well. He stopped and checked his feet and retied the plastic."(McCarthy 102)
This is showing that even though the boy may not being well the man still takes care of him and doesn't just leave him on the road to day. This like the in the song where it says "I'd jump in front of a train for you" and "Take a bullet straight through my brain." These lyrics show that the man will do anything for the woman and he would risk his life for her which is similar to the man and boy because the man will risk his life before he leaves the boy.
I think this song is creative because it doesn't have to do with living in a new world having to watch your back all the time. I think her connection is good because she has really good quotes. She has evidence from both the novel and song and it really works because it's like the man would do anything for the boy.
Deletei wouldn't have thought choosing thins song , but i like it how you compare it to the novel, its also creative.
DeleteI chose the song Stronger because it is similar to how the man and the boy need each other to survive. Without each other, they feel like they can not survive alone. In the song it says “I need you right now.” The boy especially always is saying how he needs his dad and gets scared when his dad leave him to get stuff for the fire or to get food for them for a short time. Also in the song it says “That don’t kill me can only make me stronger.” This is like the story because all of the things that they see along the road don’t kill them but make them stronger in the sense that they have seem more things and kind of get used to it. In the novel it says “Take me with you the boy said. He looked as if he was going to cry. No. I want you to wait here. Please, Papa.” This shows that they boy always feels like he needs his dad around him.

Great song, very creative. Song choice was very creative. Pretty strong connection however the connection does make sense. Quality of the connection is decent and if worked on more could be great. Great choice of song though!
DeleteI think this was a great song to pick even though I would have a hard time connecting it. I believe that you did a great job connecting the book with your song even though in a sense, you turned a love song into something more post apocalyptic. I see a lot of evidence from the book and song although I think you could have used more evidence from the song and possibly even the book.
Deletei think your song choice was very creative, i normally wouldnt have thought to use this song. i think you did a good job connecting The Road to the song and i liked the quote you used from the book.
DeleteDon't You Worry Child ----- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9BtTrZdft8
ReplyDeleteThere was a time
I used to look into my father's eyes.
Yeah!
There was a time
I met a girl of a different kind.
We ruled the world,
I thought I'd never lose her out of sight.
We were so young,
I think of her now and then.
I still hear the songs
Reminding me of a friend.
Upon a hill across a blue lake,
That's where I had my first heartbreak.
I still remember how it all changed.
My father said,
"Don't you worry, don't you worry, child.
See heaven's got a plan for you.
Don't you worry, don't you worry now."
Yeah!
Oh, oh, oh!
Oh, oh, oh!
See heaven's got a plan for you
[Live version repetitions:]
See heaven's got a plan for you
See heaven's got a plan for you
"Don't you worry, don't you worry, child.
See heaven's got a plan for you.
Don't you worry, don't you worry now."
Yeah!
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh! [3x]
Yeah!
This song relates to the book in many different ways. It relates by the lyrics and with the tone / type of music style. During the song when it says "Don't you worry, don't you worry now." it reminds me how the father cares about the boy so much throughout the entire story. The man cares about the boy even when he has no food or hasn't slept in a while. "Those days are gone, now the memory's on the wall" reminds me how the man used to live in a normal world, but now he only can remember the past world. There are actual house that still stand from when the normal world, and it's a memory now because no one is building a house. "I used to look into my father's eyes." This part reminds me of how the boy is always looking up to his father for someone to help him or as someone who cares for him.
I thought Danielle's was really creative because she chose a song that wasn't about a road or a little boy but she took the connection between a man and woman who had a good relationship to the man and the boy who also have a good relationship.
ReplyDeleteHannah: Hannah's was really creative because in the song it talks about how in the song they are living in an apocalyptic world and living in a whole new world just like the road.
Fiona: I really liked Fiona's because she connected multiple quotes in the road to lyrics in the song, hers was really creative also because she figured different ways to connect the two

ReplyDeleteWe Know it's True
Projected Twin
A boy sees a man
A question’s got something to say
He wants to know
“Will we live through this?”
Man turns his head
Kid knows the answer right away
You will be spared
You can’t save all of them
This is the world as we knew it before decay
The other half was burned away
Who did this? All of us
We’re killing ourselves as we turn our heads the other way.
The truth is now and here to stay
We’re falling off our time-line
Look into the eyes of our children
They've got something to say
Give me the truth
Will we be safe?
Can you save all of us?
Well I told you the truth
You will be spared
Now we can’t save all of them
We’re tripping over each other (várias vezes)
Give me the truth (em off)
Reaching out for a brother
Can you tell me the truth?
Will we be safe?
Can you save all of us?
Well I told you the truth
You will be spared
Now we can’t save all of them
Can you tell me the truth?
I will be saved, but we can’t save all of them?
Well I hate the truth
If I can be saved, why can’t we save all of them...?
I chose this song because the first time I heard of it I thought of the Road. The song references a boy and a man, and the boy asks the man "will we live through this." This reminds me of the boy in the Road, and how he relies on the man for reassurance, such as when he says "are we going to die now" (pg 27) when they are running out of food. The man in the song doesn't answer, but he "knows" that "you will be spared." It is implied by this quote that "I" wont. The man believes that it is his god given duty to protect the boy, and his live is valued far above his own.

Don't act like I never told ya

I chose the song Stronger by Kanye West because his song really relates to the book The Road in a lot of different ways. In the book it says "the man fell back instantly and lay with blood in his lap with no expression on his face at all"(McCarthy 66). This happened when they man shot the bad guy for touching the boy. In the song it says "N-now th-that that don't kill me Can only make me stronger." Literally speaking the bad guy did not kill him and he got the courage to shoot the gun and kill the bad guy. This made him a stronger person and made him realize that on the walk they need to be more careful and look around more. Also, the fact that they had not eaten food for so long in the beginning of the book did not kill them. It indeed did make them stronger because from that point on they ate pretty well and they are still eating pretty well, and even when they run out of food again they will be able to tolerate it because the long period of time without food in the beginning helped them build up the period of time they can go without eating.
"Virus Alert" Weird Al
ReplyDeleteHey, everyone, listen up, your attention if you please
We wanna give you a warning
'Cause I found out this morning
About a dangerous, insidious computer virus
If you should get it, an email with the subject, 'stinky cheese'
Better off protecting your chances
Under no circumstances, should you open it
Or else it will
Translate your documents into Swahili
Make your TV record "Gigli"
Neuter your pets, and give you laundry static cling
Look out!
It's gonna make your computer screen freeze
Look out!
Erase the Easter eggs off your DVDs
Look out!
Erase your hard drive and your backups too
And the hard drive of anyone related to you
Virus alert!
Delete immediately before someone gets hurt!
Forward this message on to everybody
Soon, very soon, it will make all the paint peel off your walls
It'll make your keyboard all sticky
Give your poodle a hickey
And invest your cash in stock in Euro Disney
Then, it will tie up your phone, making prank long-distance calls
It'll set your clocks back an hour and start clogging the shower
So just trash it now, or else it will
Decide to give you a permanent wedgie,
Legally change your name to Reggie,
Even mess up the pH balance in your pool
Look out!
It's gonna melt your face right off your skull
Look out!
And make your iPod only play Jethro Tull
Look out!
And tell you knock-knock jokes while you're trying to sleep
Look out!
And make you physically attracted to sheep
Look out!
Steal your identity and your credit card
Look out!
Buy you a warehouse full of pink leotards
Look out!
Then cause a major rift in time and space
And leave a bunch of Twinkie wrappers all over the place
That's right it's a
Virus alert!

Virus alert!
Delete immediately before someone gets hurt!
Forward this message on to everybody
Warn all your friends, send this to everybody
Tell everyone you know, tell everybody now
If you get infected, you'll wish you had never been born
So before it emails your grandmother all of your porn
Turn off your computer and make sure it powers down
Drop it in a forty-three-foot hole in the ground
Bury it completely; rocks and boulders should be fine
Then burn all the clothes you may have worn any time you were online!

This song connects to the road because of the way the problem in the song is dealt and its outcomes. In the song the viewer is told get a virus ridden email and told “Virus alert!
Delete immediately before someone gets hurt!”. This of course doesn’t happen and the email gets forwarded as “warning”. In The Road there’s a flashback to when the apocalypse started. (This is about where I’d enter my quote but, I can’t find the spot.) Here we see that it appeared to come on rather suddenly. Caused a lack of response and prevention (deleting it) and thus created a slew of problems bringing of the apocalypse.
Big Country- World On Fire
ReplyDeleteFeel how the years have passed
Rushing like a raging sea
Riding on the crest of a breaker
Holding on to what could be
Never dreamed I could love a stranger
Never doubted the mystery
Now living is pure adventure
'Cause I know, I know you'll stand by me
Feel how the moods are changing
The nations of every creed
The symphony of every heartbeat
The movement for those in need
If tolerance falls to the wayside
If freedom is down on its knees
I won't fall far with the sinners
'Cause I know, I know you'll stand by me
There's a reason, there's a cause
We can benefit from playing all our cards together
Through the seasons and up to the stars
We could elevate a consciousness forever
But I'm gonna tell them
I won't leave it, I won't tire, I want to keep my sole desire
I wanna run it to the wire, we don't need another world on fire
Liberate the real tomorrow
Leave a chance for the mild and meek
Realize that time is borrowed
Look ahead to the gift we seek
When the sea runs wild to the ocean
The river runs true to the sea
I'll follow this dream with the tide
'Cause I know, I know you'll stand by me
There's a reason, there's a cause
We can benefit from playing all our cards together
Through the seasons and up to the stars
We could elevate a consciousness forever
But I'm gonna tell them
I won't leave it, I won't tire, I want to keep my sole desire
I wanna run it to the wire, we don't need another world on fire
There's a reason, there's a cause
We can benefit from playing all our cards together
Through the seasons and up to the stars
We could elevate a consciousness forever
Well I'm gonna tell them
I won't leave it, I won't tire, I want to keep my sole desire
I wanna run it to the wire, we don't need another world on fire
I won't leave it, I won't tire, I want to keep my sole desire
I wanna run it to the wire, we don't need another world on fire
World on fire
This song connects to the road because it explains what is happening in the world during that time period of the song and everything that is stated in the music relates to the world as "A world on fire" . In the song the main character is experiencing a world of death and fire. He feels like the years have passed so quickly because of the disaster that has happened. But he feels that things can get better sooner or later. The things that happened during this song can relate to the apocalypse that is happening in the road
I'm waking up to ash and dust
ReplyDeleteI wipe my brow and I sweat my rust
This song “ Radioactive ” relates to The Road because it talks about the apocalypse. In the book, there is ash and dust everywhere, covering everything, In the song it says “I’m waking up to ash and dust”. The song also talks about how they are living in the apocalypse and in The Road the man and the boy are living in the apocalypse. In the song it says, “The sun hasn’t died”. In the book, there is not a lot of sun at all because it is blocked by all the ash.
